The world as we know it today has changed radically. Global alarms on the status of our environment are being sounded almost incessantly. Often, we wait for catastrophe to prod us to concrete action. Always, we only act after we have personally suffered from the devastating effects of our environment abuse. But many environmentalists and even world leaders are in a hurry to resolve this kind of phenomena due to many calamities that has been experiencing in the different countries.
Located at the northern locale of Ilocos Norte, Barit, Laoag City has caught the eyes of a lot of people not only average persons, but also personas whose reputation has been admired. As a prize for the barangay’s uprightness, it had been awarded as the Cleanest Barangay of Laoag City.
In connection of this year’s newly-launched project, the National Greening Program, the Ilocos Norte National High School Youth For Environment School Organization, lead by the INNHS YES-O adviser, Mr. Paulo Tunac, decided to implement the said project at Barangay Barit. Two major views are being pondered upon the accomplishment of the undertaking, one is to maintain Barit’s cleanliness; and the other is to develop and improve some of its inept areas. Early this year, the INNHS- YES O has already accomplished numerous community immersions. The organization diligently abides the NGP. As stated in the NGP’s targets, filling out the denuded regions of a forest, it also aims to protect and preserve coastal areas.
As an individual, we need to do something even in a simple way that we could help, mitigate the bad effect of climate change in our world. Because of these, many people’s organizations, non-government organizations, and even student leaders today do environmental actions in order to take part of these noble causes in protecting, preserving, and mitigating climate change.
This study will contribute a simple way, the generation green to the next level promoting greener environment and more conducive place to live in and will promote environmental awareness, upholding tree planting and greener community, more specifically in the urban areas just like Laoag City which is one of the most highly urbanized cities in our country.
This project will not be only beneficial to the residents of Barit, but also, to the whole country. We do hope that this study will lead the way to other young student leaders in our community to also do an act of sense of environmental leadership to save mother earth.
